About Joanna
Joanna Ard brings 20 years of professional experience to her role as a high-level marketer focused on the full customer lifecycle. She began her career at a small company as a mailroom clerk while attending college, later moving into customer service where she spent nearly seven years advancing to team lead and supervisor. After nearly a decade with the company, she transitioned into an entry-level marketing role, which became the foundation for her growth after the firm was acquired by Nationwide. There, Ard progressed to marketing specialist, channel manager of the referral loyalty program (growing it into the second-largest acquisition channel generating $30 million annually), and senior marketing consultant handling partnership marketing. She credits her customer service background with shaping her customer-centric approach. In 2018, Ard returned to education, earning her bachelor's degree in 2021 and her MBA in 2023. She has volunteered with Alpha, a Latino professional organization, and attributes her success to her Mexican culture and family, noting that her parents' work ethic as first-generation Americans instilled her drive to elevate her family through achievement.

Ten minutes with Joanna
01What do you attribute your success to?
I would attribute my success to my culture and my family. I'm Mexican, I'm first-generation American here in this country, and I grew up seeing how hard my parents worked, and that's my ethic really came from my parents. When we succeed in our culture, when I succeed, my family succeeds, right? We bring my group comes with me.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Don't be afraid to lean into spaces that maybe you feel like you don't belong. Don't be afraid to take the risk and leap into something that you might not fully know you can do. Stay focused, connect with the right people, ask the questions, learn. Don't focus on what society tells you you can or can't do. When life throws something in your way, keep moving forward.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Challenges are keeping up with the technology, how fast things are moving, how many tools are out there. Opportunities are leaning into the technology and using new tech, AI to solve problems.
