Joanna Ma Nagashima, PMP, is a Senior Project Manager at Singular Builders with extensive experience managing complex construction projects from planning through execution. She began her career at Swinerton Builders as an Intern Project Engineer and advanced through roles at Gilbane Building Company, where she served as Project Engineer, Superintendent, and Project Manager before joining Boost Mobile. Joanna has led major projects including upgrades for semiconductor manufacturing and college admissions buildings.

She holds a Master of Science in Project Management with a focus on Construction Management from Northwestern University and a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Southern California, where she was active in Alpha Rho Chi and the Construction Management Association of America. Joanna is also a certified Project Management Professional (PMP).

Recognized for her leadership and performance, Joanna has received honors such as Gilbane’s Rookie of the Year and was a candidate for the Management Acceleration Program. She is passionate about applying her expertise to deliver high-quality, efficient, and innovative construction solutions while mentoring the next generation of construction professionals.

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to careful planning and collaboration while maintaining professionalism — overseeing projects such as the launch of 600+ cell sites has taught me the importance of working closely with cross functional teams to ensure everything runs smoothly and properly.

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve received came from my team at Boost Mobile, who encouraged me to overcome my imposter syndrome and embrace stepping into a leadership role by always anticipating the next steps ahead.

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Being in a male dominated industry, I have learned that you do not need to be “one of the guys” in order to be respected. Stay true to who you are, and be confident in the work you do.

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge in the construction industry is incorporating high tech software and practices in day to day activities.

The most important values to me in both my work and personal life are maintaining professionalism, staying organized, and giving back to the community.
