Her Story
About Joanna
My career journey has been driven by a passion for helping people and making their lives easier. I've been in the human resources field since 2009, bringing nearly 20 years of experience to my work. Before landing in HR, all of my jobs, even through high school and college, were customer service based. I worked in banking and retail, always in customer-facing roles. I came to realize that in HR, our employees are our internal customers, so it was a natural segue into the HR world since I was already enjoying the whole customer service aspect. Currently, I work as a human resources assistant for an Amazon delivery service partner, where I am the HR go-to person for our employees. My responsibilities include helping employees with their day-to-day HR needs, including payroll, benefits, workers' compensation, and FMLA. Every day is different, depending on employee needs. What makes my day is seeing the smiles on individuals' faces when I am able to assist them with what they need. This is why I've been doing what I do for the longest time. I'm very people-forward and all about helping them out with their needs. Just knowing that I make a difference in other people's lives and helping them is what I find most rewarding. If I could make someone's day go that much easier, I am all for helping them out in the best way that I can.

Ten minutes with Joanna
01What do you attribute your success to?
I am not a quitter. I never give up. I just take the good with the bad, and luckily, in my career journey, it's been more good than the latter. What keeps me going is knowing that I make a difference in other people's lives and helping them. If I could make someone's day go that much easier, I am all for helping them out in the best way that I can.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would definitely let them know not to get discouraged, because along with helping people and making them happy with what they need, it comes also with not-so-nice situations with dealing with people, as we all know. So I would say just keep at it, know what your heart wants, and don't get discouraged along the way, because we'll all figure it out.
