Ten minutes with Joanne
01What do you attribute your success to?
After 47 years in the performing arts, I have learned that a career is built through persistence, continuous learning, and a willingness to embrace new opportunities while continuing to share what I love.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I recommend pursuing formal education and training, as there are excellent acting programs in New York, Los Angeles, Canada, and Europe. Developing a well-rounded foundation can provide valuable skills and prepare you for a successful career.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges is the limited number of roles available for women my age, so I have explored other creative opportunities, including jazz and performing in singing clubs.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I value adaptability and continuous growth, as the arts can lead to unexpected opportunities—from acting to singing, teaching, and mentoring. I also value public education and using creativity to communicate meaningful ideas, believing women can positively influence their communities through the arts, education, leadership, humor, and comedy.
