About Jobyna
Jobyna Terry Mapp, Esq. is an attorney, entrepreneur, author, and advocate whose career has been defined by resilience, versatility, and an unwavering commitment to helping others build, protect, and pursue what matters most. As a solo practitioner, she leads a boutique law practice focused on estate planning and business law, while also representing clients in traffic court matters.
Mapp earned her Juris Doctor from Charlotte School of Law in 2015, building her legal career on a foundation of extensive experience in corporate compliance and risk management. Before transitioning fully into private practice, she held positions with major financial institutions involving anti-money laundering, KYC due diligence, internal audit, risk management, and regulatory compliance. That experience gives her a unique perspective at the intersection of law, business, finance, and risk, one she brings to every client she serves.
She earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Management from Norfolk State University and is an active member of the Virginia State Bar and Pi Sigma Epsilon.
But Mapp's story extends far beyond the courtroom and law office. A lifelong creative, she is also an accomplished author of children's books and novels, including A League of My Own, Perfectly Brown, and Just Justice. Several of her works have received literary recognition, reflecting her commitment to using storytelling to educate, inspire, and empower.
Her dedication to service is equally central to her work. Mapp has led a Virginia State Bar diversity pre-law conference, an effort recognized with a breakout award for community engagement. She continues to invest in young people through volunteer tutoring in reading and mathematics for elementary students and participation in community food-drive initiatives.
Grounded in her faith, Mapp views her journey as one guided by purpose, often finding her greatest creativity and clarity during seasons of pressure and uncertainty. Family, trust, honesty, and integrity are the principles that anchor both her personal life and professional practice.
Mapp is especially passionate about encouraging young women entering the legal profession to reject the idea that success has to follow a predetermined path. Her message is simple: pace yourself, embrace the path that is uniquely yours, remain willing to reinvent yourself, and never give up on the goals placed in your heart.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to God, who has always given me vision, direction, and the tools I needed, even when He was the one pushing me onto the path I needed to take. I find that I create and grow the most when my back is against the wall, but I know that drive ultimately comes from His direction rather than my own.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best advice I ever received was from my coach, who told me to pace myself because this career is a marathon, not a race. I also learned the value of understanding the strategy behind the bar exam rather than relying solely on traditional study methods, including knowing how to apply the rules directly to the facts in front of me.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would tell young women entering this field to pace themselves, keep going, and run their own race. Don't be afraid to step outside of traditional bar study methods or your comfort zone, and don't doubt yourself along the way. Learn the strategy behind the test, get a coach if you need one, and if you process information differently, such as with dyslexia, find the approach that works best for you.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in my field is the difficulty of passing the Virginia bar exam while also balancing parenthood alongside a career transition. At the same time, I see real opportunity in building strategic partnerships, such as the contract I secured with a financial planning firm to provide wills and trusts services, as well as in using digital platforms to grow my presence as both an attorney and an author.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Family comes above everything else for me, both personally and professionally. Trust, honesty, and keeping my word are the values I hold most closely in every relationship, whether with clients, colleagues, or loved ones.
