Her Story

About Jocelyn

Jocelyn Hines is the Founder and CEO of Elevated Healthcare Strategies, a consulting company she launched about two years ago following her layoff from a prior Chief Medical Officer position. As a family physician by training, she brings extensive clinical experience from diverse settings including rural and urban environments across multiple states, as well as occupational medicine, emergency medicine, urgent care, and primary care. Through her firm, she provides strategic planning services to private, startup, and quasi-government healthcare entities, drawing on her business experience, clinical background, data analytics, and AI expertise to craft innovative strategies. Hines attributes her success to her faith and the example set by her mother, a driven and successful woman with an unconventional career who emphasized preparation and the belief that one can achieve whatever they set their mind to. She serves as a board member for Charm City Impact and volunteers with the Mandala School, a nonprofit in Bowie, Maryland, that supports neurodivergent children.

Ten minutes with Jocelyn

01What do you attribute your success to?

I am a woman of faith, so certainly God. I also had a mom who set an example. She was a very driven, successful woman and imparted in both me and my sister that if that's what you want to do, be prepared. Do the background work so that when the opportunity comes, you're ready. You can do whatever you set your mind to and be successful. My mom had an unconventional career too, so the idea that I could do something other than the same way wasn't foreign to me.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

The things that you know that you might want to do in a higher education space, don't put them off for later because it only gets more complicated later. Honor yourself. Honor the actual desires of your heart, and where you actually want to be. Set a North Star for yourself. Figure out what your North Star is, and as best you can, keep reminding yourself of that as opportunities arise. Does that align with where I really want to be, what I want to be doing, who I am as a person, what I value?
