About Jodi
Jodi Medina owns an interior design firm in Grand Rapids, Michigan. With 25 years in the industry, she focuses on high-end residential new builds and large renovations. Her firm assists with spatial planning, construction finishes, furnishings, and accessories, delivering a complete turnkey service so clients can move into a finished home. Medina previously worked for other employers for 10 years, served as lead designer for a high-end builder for another 10 years, and launched her own firm again three and a half years ago. She holds a business degree from Calvin College, now known as Kelvin University, and her daughter works with her full-time alongside two other employees. Medina mentors high school students through career talks and offers job shadows to aspiring designers. She credits her success to her deep passion for the work and genuine care for clients, emphasizing that the goal is to help them create homes filled with memories rather than focusing solely on financial gain.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I think because I am so passionate about it, and I care a lot about my clients. It's not just about money, it's helping them create a home where they're gonna spend and create many memories there with family and friends.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Do job shadows, talk with other designers to gain a better understanding of what all is involved. It's not just picking up the pretty things. You have to have a passion for it.
