About Jody

Jody Back is a filmmaker, producer, actor, and creative professional based in Middletown, Ohio, with a passion for storytelling and independent film. Jody is the founder of Up All Night Productions, a horror film company through which she develops and produces independent projects while taking on a variety of production roles, including voice-over, editing, acting, first assistant production, directing, and producing. Her recent work includes projects such as The Waiting Room and A Thorn Among the Flowers, reflecting her commitment to creating opportunities for filmmakers and performers in southern Ohio. Jody also brings experience in radio, sales, marketing, film criticism, and production.

Jody’s career has been shaped by resilience, independence, and a desire to create opportunities where they are limited. Before returning to the arts, Jody served four years in the U.S. Army during Desert Storm and Desert Shield. She studied at Baldwin Wallace University and Cincinnati State, with educational experiences that included travel to Israel, Jordan, and Egypt. After her military service, Jody returned to the creative arts, where she found storytelling and artistic expression meaningful in her personal journey. Her diverse experiences have strengthened her perspective as a storyteller and fueled her determination to support greater access to creative opportunities for artists and veterans.

Beyond her professional work, Jody is actively involved in her community through affiliations with organizations including the Eagles, Art Society, and Legion. As a district ambassador, she participates in neighborhood cleanups, park development, and tree-planting initiatives aimed at improving the local community. Jody also provides services in program management, public speaking, advertising, research skills, interview preparation, and video production. Through Up All Night Productions and her community involvement, Jody combines creativity, leadership, and service while working to strengthen the independent film community and create opportunities for others.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice is to stay persistent and build a strong network. This is not an easy field to enter, but I’ve learned a lot through online connections and industry relationships. Even when one path doesn’t work out, keep seeking other opportunities to learn and grow.

02What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me are service, community, resilience, and integrity. I believe in giving back through organizations like the Eagles, Art Society, and Legion, while supporting my community through neighborhood cleanups, park development, and tree-planting initiatives. I also value staying connected to my roots and using my experiences to make a positive difference.
