Her Interview
Ten minutes with Johnna
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to always trying to learn and never taking no for an answer. I keep pushing to achieve my goals, and after achieving one, I always try to find another one. It's my hard work and drive for success that makes me good at my job.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've received is to not stay stagnant or get too comfortable. Always be willing to learn more, and if a job takes you to a different country, think about how it could affect you. Don't say no automatically if nothing's tying you down. It's important to learn, grow, and be willing to move from where you are.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
It literally always just comes down to hard work. It's never luck. It's the amount of hard work that you put into something. You have to be able to wake up the next day and be like, I can do this again. Everything comes down to your mindset. Make sure your mindset is ready to change, apply to different roles, and see how you can put your skills into other teams. You can make more money in tech.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The industry is really fun and always changing. Personally, I'm always tired so overcoming that is key. Working with technical partners means learning technical terms and translating business needs into terms they understand. Engineers can be difficult to work with as they want to go with their own flow, so making sure they stay aligned without sounding like you're bossing them around is challenging.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Communication is most important because as humans we fail sometimes to communicate with each other just because we're scared of how we'll react. Practicing clear communication as well as cross-functional communication to get different messages across to different audiences is key.
