About Joi
I am a unified communications and telecommunications engineer with over a decade of experience in enterprise VoIP, UC architecture, and voice systems management across healthcare, entertainment, and retail industries, currently serving as UC Voice Lead at San José State University on a contract basis, a role I have held since November 2025, where I lead enterprise UC Voice environments across on-premises, hybrid, and cloud-based platforms, design and support VoIP, SIP, SBCs, and enterprise call routing, administer Zoom Phone and UC platforms, configure AudioCodes gateways, coordinate with carriers on number management and call-flow architecture, and lead incident response, root-cause analysis, and performance tuning.
Prior to this role, I served as VoIP Engineer at UCLA Health on a contract basis for over five years, where I provided daily maintenance and troubleshooting in a large enterprise environment, supporting the Ronald Reagan Hospital and remote locations. I also served as Information Technology Telecommunications Manager at Guitar Center for nearly three years, where I planned, configured, and commissioned telecommunications equipment and systems, managed a team of five employees, successfully transitioned over six hundred stores to Zoom VoIP, delivering four million dollars in cost savings.
Earlier in my career, I served as Telecommunications Engineer at Fox and Disney Networks for nearly three years, where I maintained and administered VoIP networks in Avaya and Cisco Unified Communications environments for over ten thousand users, led deployments, provided white-glove support, and spearheaded the company-wide transition from Avaya to Cisco. I also served as Cisco Engineer at 21st Century Fox on a contract basis for nearly three years.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication and Media Studies from the University of West Georgia and an Associate's degree in Journalism from Georgia State University Perimeter College.
Across my career in unified communications and telecommunications engineering, my work has been driven by a commitment to delivering reliable, scalable voice solutions, leading complex transitions, and optimizing system performance through strategic planning and technical expertise. Whether I am leading UC voice architecture at a university, managing telecommunications for a national retailer, or supporting enterprise VoIP at a major health system, I bring a strategic, hands-on, and results-driven approach that has earned trust from colleagues and leadership. I am proud of the work I have done throughout my career and excited to continue advancing UC voice excellence at San José State University.
