Jolene Borr serves as a service manager at an automotive repair facility, where she has worked for 10 to 11 years. Her role centers on customer relations, educating clients about necessary repairs, and overseeing all day-to-day shop operations including appointment scheduling, quoting, and vehicle pickup. Borr earned an associate's degree from a local college and gained early exposure to automotive work through shop class in high school. She credits a former general manager mentor with teaching her valuable people skills and patience, alongside her own drive to succeed. Borr values transparency, honesty, and the principle of under-promising while over-delivering in both her professional and personal life. She advises young women entering the field to stay strong, educate themselves, and not back down, noting that knowledge earns respect. Among current challenges in the industry, she highlights the need for fair and equal pay compared to men in similar positions, while seeing limitless opportunities for growth into corporate roles as she continues to build her skills.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I had a really good mentor as a GM for a handful of years. I learned a lot of my people skills and my patience from him. And then just overall internal desire to succeed.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Trust the process.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Don't back down, stay strong, and educate yourself, and that way you're giving facts, and people respect you more when you're knowledgeable.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenges are getting paid fairly or equally to men in comparable positions. Opportunity-wise, as I continue to grow in my people skills, job knowledge, and management skill set, opportunities are limitless because outside of a small dealership there's always the corporate world.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Transparency, honesty, and under-promising and over-delivering.
