About Jonisha

Jonisha King serves as an educator in Texas with a focus on math supervision for grades 3 through Algebra 1. She earned her bachelor's degree from Texas Tech University, her master's degree in Educational Leadership from Grand Canyon University, and anticipates completing her doctorate from Dallas Baptist University in 2029. Recognized as Teacher of the Year in both 2020 and 2023, Jonisha is a member of the Texas Supervisors of Math and plans to join TABSE. Beyond her professional roles, she volunteers with her church's welcome committee and Next Steps ministry while also tutoring students in math. Jonisha attributes her success to her family, drawing inspiration from her father's hard work, her mother's resilience in pursuing her own doctorate, and her grandmother's entrepreneurial spirit in starting a daycare in 1987. Her core values center on showing love and positivity, prioritizing student success, and preparing teachers to support every child's unique calling, informed by her own experiences with ADHD. She aspires to become a superintendent of a Texas school district, guided by her faith and the principle of representing excellence in all endeavors.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Jonisha

01What do you attribute your success to?

My family. My dad is a very hard worker who bought his own house at 19 and was a provider. My mom showed resilience and tenacity facing challenges while pursuing her doctorate. My grandmother started a daycare in 1987 despite not having a GED. They pushed me to go after anything I want.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

As a Christian believer, if God placed me there, I'm there for a reason and I'm going to do it anyway. Every time I go to work, I am interviewing for a new position and representing God, so do it unto Him and do it right.

03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Showing love and positivity to everyone I reach. Student success is my number one goal because every child has a unique calling. I want to prepare teachers to be the best they can be to touch these children. I want to be the person I didn't have when I was younger dealing with ADHD.
