Her Story

About Jordyn

My career path into professional sports was a bit different than most people in this field. I worked in the restaurant industry growing up and developed a really strong knack for problem solving and customer service, which led me to the service side of sports and helping members and season ticket holders with their experience. I originally applied for a service role with Rock Entertainment Group, but I ended up starting on our inside sales team with the Cavs and our Rock Entertainment Group. Since then, I've grown tremendously - I think I've had 8 or 9 different titles in my eight and a half years with the organization. It's been a tremendous organization to work for. Currently, I manage two different teams: our service team that takes care of all of our different season ticket holders for the Cavs, and our groups team for any group of people coming out with 10 or more tickets for an individual game. A lot of my day is helping my team members push their business forward and helping them develop both personally and professionally, so I spend a lot of time in one-on-ones and trainings. The other side of my day is strategy focused, making sure that we're maximizing revenue, reaching our full potential as an organization and in each discipline, and of course hitting goals since I'm in a revenue-generating role. But I'd be remiss to say if we don't have a lot of fun too - I work for a professional sports team that I grew up loving. I'm local to Cleveland and grew up loving the Cavs, so I get to work for a team that I do love and we do a lot of fun stuff.

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to being where my feet are and dominating the role I'm in. I think that kind of goes underrated - a lot of people are so worried about thinking what's next, and don't get me wrong, I do think about my future and where I could go. But I try really hard to be present in the moment and dominate the role that's currently under my belt, and that has really awarded me a lot of success. It's usually what I'll talk about as the thing that has helped me grow the most.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Be authentically yourself and do something that feels authentic to you. I think with the constraints of society these days, you think you should do something or you think you should act a certain way, and I think I'm a firm believer that if you're authentically you, you're gonna find the thing that's for you. I do a lot of interviewing too - we hire a lot in my discipline - and that's what I'm looking for the most, is just someone who I feel like is being authentically themselves. Because if you're not being true to yourself when you show up to work and you get hired, and then you come in as someone totally different, it can look a little wacky on both sides.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge is for sure the unpredictability of the team you're working for, and it's not always team performance, but sometimes it is. When your team's on a really good run, there's a positive effect, but it also goes the other way, so you kind of have to be ready to adapt to the challenges that come with that. I work for a team that has had really high highs and a couple tough seasons too, but I think that those moments of the tough seasons and the challenges has really helped shape me individually. As far as opportunities, if you find the right organization - and I really, really love working for the Cavs and Rock Entertainment Group - the opportunity to advance and be trusted and kind of blossom is endless, and I've really felt that and experienced that personally.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I think sincerity is a big one - I want to be my authentic self, and I want my team members who work for me to be their authentic selves, and then of course I want to surround myself in my personal life with people who are true to them. That's a big one for me. The second one is trust and honesty. I think it's a good building block for personal life and also in your work, and I think that those two things specifically have really paid off for a rich career and a rich life, honestly.
