About Josefina
Josefina Echavarria Alvarez is a peace and conflict studies scholar and academic leader with almost 20 years of experience working in university undergraduate and mostly graduate programs in peace and conflict. Growing up in a war motivated her to pursue work that contributes to transitioning from war to peace and lessening suffering. Since 2020 she has served as Director of the Peace Accords Matrix project at the University of Notre Dame, where her team monitors the implementation of peace accords around the world and produces impartial, quantifiable, evidence-based data made public to hold signatories accountable and inform dialogue. She also directs the Legacy Project at Notre Dame, which began in 2022 by safekeeping digital archives of the Colombian Truth Commission and facilitates global conversations on dealing with legacies of the past and reconciliation. Josefina is part of the Women We Admire Network and has volunteered with various organizations, including attending Women's Leadership summits in Chicago and completing training in Ireland on women in leadership. Her work emphasizes impact on the ground for communities affected by conflict as well as advancing research in the field.
