Her Story
About Joselinn
I've been working in my field since about 2019, and I wear many hats. I'm a published author, life coach, case manager for a nonprofit organization, and peer support supervisor. I also have my own ministry at church doing life coaching. My journey into life coaching started when I was in my 30s doing my undergrad. I was at a fork in the road, tired from being a mom and wife while doing schoolwork, and I had a goal to go to graduate school but wanted to explore if I could still help people without another two years of school. I found a life coaching certification course and took it during my Christmas break while still doing my undergrad. I actually slept on the certification for some years because I decided to go to graduate school and got my master's in clinical mental health counseling. After my master's degree, I did an internship and got hired at the Child Advocacy Center doing therapy before I passed my licensure exam. I actually failed the test twice, and they had to let me go. But God works in mysterious ways. I had always had a social media platform from when I published my first book, doing inspirational stuff online. Three of my clients from the Child Advocacy Center, their parents found me on Facebook and said they weren't going back if I wasn't there. They wanted their kids to see me, and when I explained I didn't have my license, they asked about life coaching. I took those three people on as clients, and it just started to grow from there. One of the parents was actually a therapist himself, and even with him being in the field, he preferred me to do the treatment. With life coaching, I have sessions throughout the week, and I do free life coaching sessions through my ministry at the church on Saturdays for people who can't afford the services. I facilitate support groups every Thursday evening through the nonprofit organization, alternating between teen support groups one week and adult support groups the next. I also do speaking engagements when they have events and share my story. With peer support, I supervise about 46 clients. I do all the intake and treatment plans, divvy the clients out to our specialists, and do group supervision with all our specialists plus one-on-one supervision every week. All of our peer support specialists are in recovery one way or another, whether with substance abuse or mental health things they've experienced in their lives, so they have to be supervised on a weekly basis.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would say, you know, because even with therapy and life coaching, people always talk about finding your niche. And for a long, long time, I tried to find that. And I still haven't found that. I don't know what my niche is. But I think the biggest thing I would tell somebody is be themselves. Because that would take you far in a professional manner, it would take you far just in regular, everyday life. It's just be true to who you are. That's the niche.
02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Right now, the biggest challenge that I have is balance. And really learning that I can't help everybody, although it's in my heart to help everybody, I can't. I'm just one person. I'm learning that everybody is not my assignment. Even though I will try and squeeze them in and make them my assignment, if it's possible. But I'm really learning a balance. And learning how to tap into other resources around me. And finding help for other people in different ways.
03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
My values is one, I feel like honesty is my policy. With clients, and just in life general, I feel like that is, you know, different therapists and different people in the field have things that set them apart. They have their own niche, and I think my niche is just being honest. Because I've found that people just respect that on a different level than you just shooting them what they want to hear. It might not always feel good, but they appreciate it, so I definitely say that is at the top of my list. And of course, you know, I am led by my faith in everything that I do. That doesn't necessarily mean you have to believe in what I believe in to be a client, but I am definitely led by God in everything that I do. I made a promise to God quite some time ago that everything that I touch is going to be inclusive to Him. And I have kept that promise. I have kept that promise in my work. I have kept that promise in my writing. I have kept that promise now in a whole musical album. I also have a clothing line, called Raising Faith Apparel. So anything that, whether it's my brand, or it's our business or personal life, it all reflects him. And I make sure that he's in the forefront of all of that, so no matter what you shine the light on, he's going to be shown.
