About Josephine
Josephine Hammond brings over three decades of experience to her work in education. Now in her 32nd year, she serves in a rural Middle Tennessee school where she supports teachers, students, and families through professional development focused on literacy. Originally planning a career in aeronautical engineering, Hammond shifted paths after high school, inspired by her experiences with children through babysitting and church youth groups. She weaves storytelling into her training sessions to make content readily accessible and applicable for educators. Hammond credits her parents, who instilled faith, self-belief, and unconditional love despite not graduating high school themselves, as the foundation of her success. She also draws on advice from a mindful coach to approach situations without expectations, allowing her to remain flexible and connected in her multiple roles.

Ten minutes with Josephine
01What do you attribute your success to?
I would say my parents. They were my rocks who gave me faith and the ability to believe in myself and unconditional love. Neither one graduated from high school but their goal was for their children to accomplish more and they gave me a solid foundation to dream and strive and achieve.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best advice that my mindful coach gave me was Josie you just need to not have expectations because when you have expectations you get disappointed no matter what. So go into it without having any expectations.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Finding a way and really understanding people. Finding your voice and finding your way of delivery and connecting with people. Everyone's time is valuable and honoring that and when you're creating PD and delivering it you're making sure they're meeting with something that is readily accessible and applicable.
