Josie Meyers: Hi, I'm Josie Meyers, founder and owner of Jett's Puppy Pre-K, a local dog training company in my area. Being an influential woman to me means being positive, uplifting, and kind. Not only to the women in my community, but to every business owner that is struggling, that thinks that they can't make it, they can't do it, they're not enough. I've had such a wonderful support system personally, filled with a lot of powerful women in my life, and it has truly changed my outlook on everything, just knowing that it is possible you can have that support system as long as you put in the work, it will be worth it.
Her Story
About Josie
Josie Meyers is the Founder & Head Trainer of Jet’s Puppy Pre-K, a mobile dog-training business based in O’Fallon, Missouri. She specializes in puppy development, basic obedience, and positive, force-free training methods designed to help dogs build confidence while strengthening the relationship between pets and their owners. Her passion for animal care began in childhood through her experiences with her own dogs, including Jet, who inspired the name of her business. Meyers is committed to providing personalized training that supports both the behavioral and developmental needs of each dog.
Meyers earned her Bachelor of Business Administration in Business Administration and Management from the University of Missouri Trulaske College of Business, with a minor in Entrepreneurship. During her junior year at Mizzou, she completed her professional dog-training certification through the Karen Pryor Academy, strengthening her expertise in positive reinforcement and ethical training practices. Her combination of formal business education, professional dog-training credentials, customer-service experience, and entrepreneurial training has equipped her to manage the operational and client-facing demands of growing an animal-focused business.
Beyond her work with Jet’s Puppy Pre-K, Meyers is passionate about community service and animal welfare. She has volunteered with Unchained Melodies Dog Rescue, supporting dogs that have experienced abuse, neglect, or prolonged chaining, and has also contributed to youth programs through community recreation initiatives. Meyers credits her entrepreneurial drive in part to her mother, a State Farm franchisee, while her previous experience in restaurants and daycare environments helped develop her communication, leadership, and goal-oriented approach. As she continues building her business, she advocates for responsible education within the dog-training profession and encourages aspiring trainers to conduct thorough research, pursue quality training, and prioritize humane, force-free practices.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Josie
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to the strong entrepreneurial influence of my mother and the business-minded values instilled in me by my family. I have always been goal-oriented, motivated, and eager to learn, which has allowed me to thrive in fast-paced environments. My early experiences working in restaurants and daycares taught me the importance of dedication, adaptability, and understanding every aspect of an operation. I have always taken pride in learning the details of my work, taking initiative, and genuinely caring about the people and responsibilities entrusted to me.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I have received is to remember that setbacks are simply part of the journey. When something does not go as planned, I believe in acknowledging it, learning from the experience, and moving forward rather than dwelling on what went wrong. Each new day brings a fresh opportunity to grow, improve, and make progress. Maintaining perspective, resilience, and a positive mindset has helped me navigate challenges without allowing them to define my journey.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering the dog-training industry is to believe in themselves and not allow intimidation or uncertainty to hold them back. Because the industry is largely unregulated, it is especially important to conduct thorough research, seek reputable education and certifications, and carefully evaluate the methods and standards you choose to follow. Build your knowledge, trust your abilities, and remain confident in your expertise. With preparation, persistence, and a commitment to continuous learning, you can establish credibility and create your own path in the industry.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in my field is the highly saturated dog-training market in my area, which makes effective marketing and differentiation especially important. At the same time, I see a significant opportunity to educate pet owners about modern, humane training approaches. As a professionally certified dog trainer, I use force-free, positive reinforcement methods and believe dogs can learn effectively without relying on harsh corrections. My goal is to demonstrate that there is always a more compassionate and gentle way to address behavior while building trust and strengthening the bond between dogs and their owners.
