Her Story
About Joy
I began my career in healthcare in 1999, right after completing my medical assistant training. The day I graduated was the day I got hired in the medical field, which was an incredible start. I spent about 25 years working for the same company, moving through many different departments and gaining experience in various positions along the way. In 2021, I made the decision to retire early and enjoyed life for a few years. Eventually, I got bored and returned to work, taking on part-time remote positions and working in home care services for about six months. Currently, I'm working in customer service processing payments, but this is just a pause in my healthcare journey. I'm actively going back to school to pursue my associate degree in healthcare administration business, building on my existing certifications in medical assisting, phlebotomy, and medical billing. My goal is to start my own business as a medical courier doing lab work, which I plan to launch next year.

01What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
My most important value is being an influence to other women, showing that no matter what age or what you're going through, you can make it through. I believe your story can have an impact on somebody else. A lot of us women struggle through a lot of stuff, and I want to let them know you're not struggling alone. Even though my path might be a little different than yours, we're pretty much struggling together. I've had 25 years in the healthcare field, then retiring early was a struggle. Family life is a struggle, financially it's a struggle, but we can get through it. If I can be a positive influence on somebody else by them just hearing my story, that's what matters to me. I just turned 68 and I have a brand new grandbaby, and I want those grandbabies to enjoy life. That's what drives me.
