About Joy
Joy Evans is the founder of the Eisen Rock Foundation, a nonprofit organization she established in early 2023 with 501c3 status granted in late 2023. The foundation supports low-income cancer patients and their families by providing emergency financial resources through quarterly donations to two partner charities, the Cancer Support Network in the Bay Area and Young Adult Survivors United in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In addition to her philanthropic work, Evans serves as an electrical test technician in a male-dominated field, where she collaborates with field techs and engineers to verify the safety of electrical systems at hospitals, schools, and data centers. With a community college degree from the College of Alameda, she draws on 27 years of experience in the electrical industry, which began after her time in the Coast Guard sparked her interest in mechanical and electrical systems. Evans attributes her success to her faith in Jesus Christ, her ability to remain focused, and her willingness to pivot when plans change, while emphasizing the importance of character and integrity in both her professional and personal life.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Joy
01What do you attribute your success to?
First of all, Jesus Christ allowing me the ability to endure and remain focused. There's an old saying that the man or woman who chases two rabbits catches none. Remain focused and be ready to pivot because you may have a plan and that plan may go up in smoke by 10 o'clock in the morning.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
First of all, pray because I am a praying woman. Jesus Christ is my guide. Start your research. Become an expert in whatever you are trying to do. Get in touch and get around people who are doing what you want to do. You need patience. A lot of people are not willing to wait 10 years, 15 years, 20 years but the ones that do are the ones that succeed.
03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Character and integrity. For the first maybe 35 to 40 years of my life, all I had to offer was my word. And when people began to trust that and see that I was a woman of character, that's when doors began opening for me.
