What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my unwavering commitment to advocacy, community, and collaboration. I am proud to work alongside Black families and students, engaging in community outreach that helps build power, amplify voices, and strengthen opportunities for those I serve. My work is grounded in deep listening, relationship-building, and a belief in the transformative impact of collective action.
For more than 15 years, I have also served as President of Thumpin’ Music Inc., a role that has allowed me to merge leadership, creativity, and cultural expression. This experience has strengthened my ability to guide teams, manage programs, and foster meaningful connections both on and off the stage.
Additionally, my service as a board member for Omar D. Blair Charter School and my involvement as a Red Star member of the NAACP and the Colorado Black Women’s Advocacy Group have shaped the leader I am today. These roles keep me closely connected to the families, educators, organizers, and community partners who inspire me and motivate my ongoing commitment to equity and justice.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that guide my work and personal life are rooted in creativity, connection, and a deep commitment to justice. As a songwriter, journaler, and someone with a background in theatre, I bring creativity and expression into everything I do. I love to dance, explore food, and stay grounded through ongoing study in spirituality—practices that help me stay centered, authentic, and open-hearted.
At the core of my professional values is the belief that every child in this country deserves a high-quality education. I am committed to supporting families, building strong teams, and fostering environments where collaboration and care are prioritized. My work is strengthened by listening, partnership, and the shared efforts of communities striving for equity.
Mental health is also deeply important to me. I believe that taking care of our emotional and spiritual well-being allows us to show up more fully for ourselves and others. Whether in my organizing work or personal life, I strive to live with compassion, integrity, and a dedication to uplifting those around me.
