Her Story

About Joy

I work as an account planner at Fifth Ring, a smaller boutique firm where I handle both account planning and account management responsibilities. My role involves developing the overall strategy for our client accounts, including digital strategy, web development, and brand strategy. I'm also the client-facing person, managing day-to-day correspondence, timelines, and key milestones. What I love most about my work is my relationship with my clients - that's number one for me. I'm also energized when we unearth an insight that plays a central role in a winning strategy, which really uses my analytical mind. I think I'm this cross-balance between relational and analytical, and that's who I am at my core.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Joy

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would say, very humbly, that authenticity and really listening to my inner voice have been the key factors to my success. It helped me pivot when I needed to and not waste time overthinking - I just trusted it. When my inner voice was telling me to move, I moved. That ability to trust myself and be authentic about what was and wasn't working for me has been crucial throughout my journey.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would say never be afraid to not know. Never be afraid to humble yourself for the mission of growing. Don't let the new corporate world intimidate you. I would make your mission becoming the most knowledgeable and skilled person you can become, because a job can get taken away from you at any moment. Nobody can take away your knowledge and your skill, so I would leave them with that.
