Joyce Shim

I've been with Metro Transit St. Louis for 29 years, starting in 1997 as a bus operator after experiencing homelessness. My career has taken me through various roles including training new bus operators, handling customer service complaints and accident details, but I always found my way back to the street because that's where I thrive. I'm a very people-friendly person with strong communication and customer service skills. My main areas of expertise are communication, customer service, and empathy. I'm extremely approachable and caring, but I also have clear boundaries and no tolerance for disrespect. I go above and beyond every day for passengers, co-workers, and management. I often share my personal story with new drivers who are struggling, and many have told me years later that if it wasn't for my encouragement, they would have quit. That kind of impact on others means everything to me.
