Her Story

About Judith

I am a gerontologist and administrator who has dedicated my career to studying and serving older adults since 2021. I currently work as a secretary in a hospital where I deal with patients and patient families to help them with admissions and other needs. I also conduct extensive research focusing on older people and older adults. I just launched Beulah Home Care Services in 2026, which represents my passion for providing quality care to seniors. Beyond my healthcare work, I am an entrepreneur running a food business and a plastic waste management initiative in Ghana. My expertise lies in research and administration, and I have completed research projects in the US and Netherlands on education. I also provide policy advising, which allows me to make a broader impact on the systems that serve vulnerable populations. I love that my field is progressive, dealing with people and policies, working on projects that close successfully with results before starting something new. This dynamic nature keeps me motivated to continue learning and growing professionally.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Judith

01What do you attribute your success to?

My motivation is just to make the world a better place for the next person and the younger generation after me. That's what keeps me going. My parents are also my biggest motivators. They always want to push me to a place where they didn't get the opportunity to be, so those are my sources of inspiration. I want to ensure that the younger generation, especially young women, can see that if I'm thriving, they can thrive too.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I've ever received is to take every opportunity, even if it's not paid. It's always good to get the experience. You don't always have to look at the money, but it just has to be something you are passionate about. Once you are passionate about it, then you should grab that opportunity. That mindset has helped me pursue meaningful work and continue growing in my field.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would advise young women to be focused and not really pay attention to the negative. I mean, every space has negativity, so don't ignore it completely, but recognize the negativity and don't focus on that. Instead, just focus on the goals that you want to achieve. Make sure to embrace change, because that makes us a better person, so we should try and embrace change and adapt to those changes. That adaptability and focus will help you succeed despite any obstacles you face.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge for me is finding funding, especially as a woman. I might say I'm not American by origin - I'm Ghanaian and African - so that limits me a bit. Being a woman also, in a way, sometimes limits you as well. So it's always getting funding to do initiatives. Like now, I'm trying to get funding to expand my home care business, so I'm trying to get it, but it's not as easy as I want it to be. Access to capital and resources remains a significant barrier.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me are integrity, teamwork, and being reliable as a person. These principles guide how I interact with patients, colleagues, and the communities I serve. I believe that maintaining integrity in all my work, collaborating effectively with others, and being someone people can count on are essential to making a meaningful impact.
