Her Interview
Ten minutes with Judy
01What do you attribute your success to?
Blessings from God...
Challenges, hardships, and triumphs help develop who you are and those morals and principles that guide your life. I've had my fair share of hard knocks and God used them as building blocks to understand what is important in life. I was blessed with a family, marriage, and career that I still enjoy. Can't forget the wonderful people who mentored me along the way; I cherish those friendships. I'm a hard-headed woman and some advice fell on deaf ears but even the hardest lessons in life build our greatest leadership traits.
"Don't be afraid to fail. Be afraid not to try" Michael Jordan.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Find out what your company is measuring as success, focus on it and be the best at meeting that goal.
Complain up, never down.
Try your best to never burn bridges during your career but if it happens, may the bridge you burned light the way.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
It's challenging when your children are young to find a work life balance. It's important to attend those school plays, athletic events, or surprise your spouse with lunch. Time moves quickly, and I doubt anyone ever looked back on their life and wished they had spent more time at work. Find your balance!
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The past few years the economy has been slow to recover and many trucking and 3PL companies are struggling financially because rates are depreciated. This has caused trucking companies to close their doors and file bankruptcy which takes capacity out of the industry. Eventually the market will correct itself and bring balance. The trading tariffs, undocumented CDL drivers, and war bring new challenges. Many of us hope for stability in the trucking industry.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Family support is central to both work and personal life. My husband of 30 years has been an incredible support system. We have two young adult children I prioritize. I maintain the same moral compass at work as I do at home. Commitment, honesty, and continuous improvement guide the way I approach my career and personal life. I'm a human and make mistakes but try to take ownership, learn from them, and continue moving forward. Always be prepared to forgive yourself and others.
