Born in Yonkers, New York, Dr. Mejido was introduced to dentistry at an early age through her parents, who owned a dental laboratory. This early exposure nurtured her passion for the field, and she gained hands-on experience working in the family business. She pursued her undergraduate studies at Barry University while working as a dental assistant in Miami, before earning her Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from the University of Florida College of Dentistry in 1993. Following graduation, she completed a residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, where she refined her expertise in comprehensive dental care.
In 1997, Dr. Mejido fulfilled her goal of opening her own practice, now operating as A1Care Dental in the Kendall/West Miami area. Her clinic has grown into a modern facility equipped with advanced dental technologies, offering services such as Invisalign, dental implants, crowns, veneers, and cosmetic dentistry. What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering the dental field is to pursue your goals with determination, remain eager to learn and grow, and take every opportunity to share your knowledge by teaching and mentoring others.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges and opportunities in dentistry today is ensuring that every patient receives the highest quality care while feeling welcomed and comfortable in the office. I am also focused on reaching and helping as many patients as possible, providing personalized treatment that improves both their oral health and overall confidence.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that guide me in both my work and personal life are ending dental anxiety and maximizing patient comfort. I treat every patient as if they were a member of my own family, ensuring they feel cared for, respected, and at ease throughout their dental experience.
