About Julia
Julia Espinoza Mejia is a chemical engineering researcher and industry professional with experience in petroleum processes and process optimization. She began her career in 2010 as a process engineer for one of the second largest oil companies in Peru. In addition to her academic work, she serves as Vice President of the AIChE Peru section and as one of the directors of a research experience program for Peruvian undergraduates. She is also a member of the American Chemical Society. Her path into engineering was motivated by a desire to break from traditional expectations and pursue problem-solving roles, and she draws inspiration from her advisor, the only female professor in the petroleum department at the time.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Don't be afraid to ask questions and reach out for advice. Build your strengths by finding help and communicating with others. Don't think you need to be perfect or have all the degrees before applying for positions or leadership roles. We all suffer from imposter syndrome but just do it anyway.
