About Julia

Julia Fish serves as Social Media Manager at Vanta, a tech company based in Brooklyn, New York. In this role, which she began a couple of months ago, she handles community management and engagement across social platforms, creates content for launches and initiatives, manages content calendars, films videos, and analyzes performance metrics to optimize strategies. With five years of experience in the marketing field, she previously spent four years at Adobe on a customer success team focused on retention marketing efforts, applying skills from her undergraduate studies in Marketing Management at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in California. She won the Extreme Ownership Award during her time at Adobe. Passionate about giving back, Julia supports the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance and participates in local trash pickup volunteering. She attributes her professional success to a resilient nature shaped by personal experiences growing up, which has fostered a tough exterior allowing her to navigate challenges creatively while remaining goal-oriented. Julia values honesty in feedback and relationships, as well as supportive environments and camaraderie both at work and in her personal life. Among the best career advice she has received is that there is nothing stupid about asking questions, which has transformed her approach to meetings and networking, particularly as a woman in tech. She advises young women entering the industry to be more bullish, take opportunities that might not exist, ask questions, set up calls, carve paths for themselves, know what they bring to the table, and be their own biggest champions.

Ten minutes with Julia

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would attribute it to a resilient nature from a lot of things that I went through growing up. It has created this tough exterior that allows me to push through any difficult moments and find creative solutions to navigate issues that come up. Remaining goal-oriented and committed, and being able to pivot and make the most of what I can to still achieve success.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

There's nothing stupid about asking questions. Especially as a woman in tech, it turned around how I approach meetings and networking, opened conversations and gave me ideas for initiatives.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Be more bullish, take opportunities that might not even exist, ask questions, set up calls with people, carve an opportunity for yourself. Know what you bring to the table and articulate it. Be your biggest champion and believe in yourself.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Honesty is key in both personal and work life for feedback and relationships. Supportive environments and camaraderie are huge, having personal cheerleaders both in work and with friends.
