About Julia
I made a career change last year after growing a wonderful career in sales. What I realized I loved about sales was the people aspect, connecting with teams and helping people do things they need help with. So I transitioned into administration work where I'm still focusing on events but really using my people skills and helpfulness in a field that applies it better. I started working in facility management at the University of Cincinnati in October, and what led me here was that catalyst of wanting to make a difference and help people anywhere they need. Working in facility management is very multifaceted because it's not just the same thing every single day. I'm constantly people's go-to person if there's any building issues, room access issues, or if they need help coordinating events within the College of Business. The fun part about my job is I'm constantly interacting with all kinds of different departments, so I get to make friends and connections throughout the entire college. My main area of expertise is the people side of connections. I love people, I take a genuine interest in people, and I really just like helping and being that support person for everybody. I overview all usage of our classrooms, Teams rooms, and conference rooms using a system called 25 Live. I review all submission requests every day, help students find appropriate spaces, facilitate coordination with maintenance, help with logistics for events, serve as the liaison between housekeeping and the rest of the college, and audit classrooms once a week to make sure everything is set for students and instructors to successfully facilitate their class. Within six months at the university, I got promoted from Building Coordinator to Senior Building Coordinator, which is really exciting.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
When I started my career in events and events sales, someone told me a long time ago, at the end of the day, it's tables, chairs, and linens, and we are not doing brain surgery over here. It will be okay. That has sometimes been a mantra to me. I work very hard and try to get everything done, but at the end of the day, if mistakes do happen, not to beat yourself up about it, and there's always a solution to the problem. You can always figure it out. Nothing is not figureoutable, as I like to say all the time. It's kind of a stay calm, and you got this energy.
