Her Story

About Julia

My journey to becoming a pediatrician started early - I knew I wanted to be a physician since high school and worked toward that goal throughout my education. Before college, I worked in hospitality as a hostess for Outback Steakhouse and as a legal file clerk. During college, I held work-study positions, and after graduating from undergraduate studies, I spent a year working as a lab technician in a pediatric genetics lab, which gave me really interesting experience in organization, research, and bench research that ultimately led me to medical school. During my third and fourth year of medical school, I decided between family medicine and pediatrics, but ultimately the children stole my heart. I've been a huge advocate for children on a societal level through my work with the Colorado Medical Society and the American Academy of Pediatrics, where I served as executive coordinator of resident initiatives during my residency, helping oversee advocacy projects across the country district by district. My main passion has become the melding of breastfeeding medicine, which is now recognized with board certification for physicians as of 2022 or 2023. I created a half-day clinic within my primary care pediatric practice at Common Spirit to focus on treating the mother-baby dyad. In April 2026, I launched Baby Care LLC because I realized that so much of what I do in clinic is preventative and education, but I only speak with families when things come up. I wanted to meet with families ahead of time to really empower them with what I think is important to know as a mother and expert in child health, to prevent heartache and issues, especially regarding infant feeding. I offer personalized prenatal and postnatal consulting services, including registry review, nursery setup, infant feeding education, baby care techniques, and ongoing support through the first year and beyond.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice would be to find your why, or figure out what you're passionate about. Over the years, I've done multiple passion projects, and the ones that you'll stick with the most are the ones that you are passionate about, so don't do it just to put it on your resume or to try to look good. Do it because you love it. Because when you go on to interview or talk about it later on, as you're pursuing a medical education or other opportunities, that will come through in your interviews and you're going to be really authentic because you love it. It's really awkward to talk about something you just did just to do it. And then I guess if I can give one other piece of advice, it's to have a mentor - have multiple mentors for different parts of your life. You can have a personal mentor, you can have a professional mentor, you can have multiple professional mentors. I think just using your resources and finding different mentors for different aspects of your life and career will get you ahead. And especially if you're a first generation person - no one in my family is a physician, and so a lot of this has been kind of trial and error. So just meet people, network, and have many mentors.
