Her Story

About Juliana

I have a sports background that shaped who I am today. I grew up playing softball and soccer and have always had a competitive bone in my body. I played collegiate soccer at Texas Lutheran University, and when I graduated, I had to choose between becoming a teacher and coach or getting into sales. I was able to get the best of both worlds when I worked for the Round Rock Express AAA baseball team for about 8 years. That's where I really dipped my toes into sales and fell in love with it. One of my most notable achievements was serving as the Dell account manager when Dell was merging with EMC - one of the largest mergers in the technology industry. I was in charge of creating an event where over 6,000 people formed a human letter spelling out DELL, and we were the E. That 6-8 month project helped me build strong relationships with Dell Technology partners, which eventually led to my role with Dell Technologies after sports. Now I'm an Account Manager at Walmart Business, working remotely with businesses across Texas. My key responsibilities include cold outreach to potential clients, listening and understanding what they're trying to get out of a Walmart Business account, and helping them see the benefits. I'd say my main area of expertise is creating lasting relationships with my clients and coworkers - I still talk to the majority of old clients and employees from the Round Rock Express.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Juliana

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would probably say my upbringing and my parents. They instilled a lot in me and I look up to them - they had a lot of accomplishments. My dad worked for Toyota and my mom worked for the state at a high level, so I think just having really good role models growing up made me successful and grounded me into what I wanted to do.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I've received is to be a sponge - just absorb everything. You don't always know the answers, so always be willing to learn. In sales especially, it's important to make it your own. Everybody has a way to sell something, but being you through the sales cycle is probably the most important thing.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Be hungry, be ready to work, and always be learning. Those are probably the things I would say to young women entering my industry.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Probably the biggest challenge is just getting the individuals on the phone and having them make the time to chat. Everybody's busy, everybody has their priorities and initiatives and responsibilities, so taking 30 minutes out of the day to chat with me is not on their forefront. It's about creating that opportunity and creating the excitement of what value I bring to them.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Just staying true to who I am and doing things the right way. Being a good employee and team player is probably most important to me in both my work and personal life.
