Her Story

About Julianna

My professional journey has been deeply influenced by having the right role model to look up to. My mom has always been such a powerhouse within her career and outside of her career. She's a founder for Vosas Verdes and an environmental leader, and she did all of this as a single mom. Watching her showed me that if she can do it, I can do it. She would always tell me I was so good at scheduling and making things happen fast, getting things done efficiently. If she was telling me this, and she gets everything done so perfectly, then I knew I had what it takes to believe in myself. I learned that you can't be a woman who stays in your room and stays behind - you have to step up and be visible to get the work done. That lesson has shaped how I approach my career in venture capital. I'm fortunate to work in San Francisco, where I'm surrounded by incredible women who are thriving and making their mark.

01What do you attribute your success to?

Honestly, another influential woman - my mom - has always been such a powerhouse within her career and outside of her career. She's a founder for Vosas Verdes and an environmental leader, and she was a single mom as well. That was just very much like, oh my gosh, if she can do it, I can do it. She would always tell me I was so good at scheduling and making things happen fast, getting things done quickly. If she was telling me this, and she gets everything done so perfectly, then I definitely have what it takes to believe in myself. I think it was definitely having the right person to look up to, because if not, I probably would have tried to follow in my dad's footsteps, and that's just not the same thing. He's very much like, stay in your room and stay behind. But if you're a woman, you can't really stay in your room and stay behind and get the work done and not be visible. You have to step up.
