What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to adaptability, attention to detail, and a strong foundation in design. Transitioning from running my own residential design business to shipbuilding taught me how to apply creative problem-solving in high-stakes environments. Now, as a Senior Engineer Tech in electrical engineering, I work closely with a team to develop precise construction drawings, resolve production issues, and ensure technical accuracy—skills that have been critical to my growth and success.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received came from my mentor, Erin Rogers, who reminded me that confidence grows through experience and that it’s okay to ask questions and take up space in this field. Her guidance has helped me navigate challenges, trust my abilities, and continue pushing forward—even when the path isn’t always clear.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering this industry is: don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Every challenge is an opportunity to learn and grow, and no one starts out knowing everything. Be curious, ask questions, and trust that you belong here—even when it feels intimidating. Confidence comes with time and experience, so keep showing up and keep learning.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in my field right now is building strong cross-disciplinary connections in an industry that’s still largely male-dominated. Working on teams that aren’t as diverse as environments I’ve experienced in the past can make collaboration feel more difficult at times. However, it’s also a great opportunity—to bring a fresh perspective, help create more inclusive spaces, and show that diverse voices strengthen both teamwork and innovation in engineering.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Honesty and integrity are the values I hold most important in both my work and personal life. I believe in doing what’s right, even when no one is watching, and being transparent in my communication and actions. These principles guide how I approach projects, collaborate with others, and build trust—both on the job and in everyday life. .
