About Julie

Julie Buckland is a Certified Household and Estate Manager with more than two decades of experience managing luxury private residences and supporting high-profile families. Since earning her Certified Household Manager credential from Starkey International Institute in 1999, she has built a distinguished career overseeing every aspect of estate operations, including property management, household staffing, financial oversight, event coordination, and family support. Throughout her career, she has served approximately 12 to 15 prominent families, including long-term engagements lasting as many as 20 years, and currently manages multiple private households, including an NBA family and a private estate in North Carolina.

Before entering the estate management profession, Buckland owned and operated a successful cleaning business and earned a medical assistant certificate, experiences that strengthened her organizational, operational, and client service skills. In addition to her estate management expertise, she has provided nanny services to approximately 50 families since 2010, demonstrating a broad range of experience in household operations and family care. Her professional strengths include organizational leadership, anticipatory planning, conflict resolution, emotional intelligence, mentorship, and financial management. She also maintains certifications in CPR and First Aid.

Buckland attributes her success to a genuine heart for service and a steadfast commitment to earning the trust of the families she serves. She believes that discretion, reliability, and attention to detail are the cornerstones of exceptional household management, enabling her to build lasting relationships and take on significant responsibilities with confidence. Having prioritized raising her own four children while building her career, she encourages aspiring household professionals to pursue specialized training through programs such as Starkey International Institute and recognizes the growing demand for qualified estate and household managers in today's luxury service industry.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Julie

01What do you attribute your success to?

I have a service heart, and when you have a true service heart there's nothing you wouldn't do for things. Families trust me with their children and with large sums of money like half a million dollars from the bank.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I've ever received is that genuine relationships are built on trust, consistency, and character. In my profession, families invite me into the most personal aspects of their lives, so integrity and discretion are just as important as technical expertise. I've found that when people know they can rely on your honesty, professionalism, and commitment, strong, lasting relationships naturally follow.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Go to the school like Starkey. If you have a background in cleaning and can verify, anybody can start anywhere. It's a great career with good money and lots of perks. You become part of their family.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

There's a shortage of good house managers. Families have gotten bitten by people so they will do without or hire cleaning crews instead. It's hard to find good work.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Family has always been my greatest priority. I chose to remain close to home to raise my four children. I have a service heart and it makes me feel good when I know that I'm helping a busy family.
