Her Interview
Ten minutes with Julie
01What do you attribute your success to?
Always add value first. Look at life and work through a lens of plenty. I feel like I was born to do this work. It aligns with my God-given gifts and personal passion.
She met her husband and business partner, Lee J. colan, at Florida State University in psychology class. They both share a passion for studying human behavior and mindset. As such, the work they do together with wonderful clients through The L Group is a blessing and fun!
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Foucs! I am have a creative mind and I love novelty so I can literally have an idea every minute. I had a great boss early in my career who taught me the value of thinking through the entire list of options and then focusing on executing that one with excellence and follow through.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would say start with yourself. Make sure that you talk to yourself like you talk to your best friend. as you talk to yourself do you think you would have any friends.
I have a practice that I started many many many many years ago. I appreciate myself for a thought or behavior and say aloud “Good Job Jules”. The practice reinforces yourself for doing something right. We are the only people with ourselves 100%of the time. As women, are often really hard on ourselves. I take control and affirm my own thoughts and behaviors before I help others do so.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Faith, love, honesty ( truth and love ) coupled with kindness, integrity and creativity.
