Her Interview
Ten minutes with Julie
01What do you attribute your success to?
The people who trained me through the FTO program and my prior work as a vet tech which gave me strong work ethic and medical background knowledge.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Is the juice worth the squeeze? Because I focus on things a little too much and go really hard within my career, and then it was always like, okay, but is that really worth it? Are you gonna ruin somebody's life for what they did.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Don't be discouraged going into especially a male-dominated field. Because you hear the horror stories and stuff, but it's not that bad. If that's what you want to do, you gotta go for it.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Public perception of police officers, especially around where I live an hour north of Atlanta where Atlanta doesn't really have the greatest view on police, and we're starting to have a high crime rate. Also being a recognizable woman within a male-dominant career can be good and bad.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Integrity, doing the right thing even when the right thing's not the easiest thing.
