About Julie
Julie Mitchell serves as Business Development Manager at her current company, where she has worked for about 8 years. She began in leasing as a leasing manager, advanced to property supervisor overseeing multiple aspects of operations, and transitioned last year into business development. In this role, she engages with owner prospects interested in property management services for single-family or multi-family residential units, handles onboarding processes including pricing, rent increases, and comps, and ensures smooth transitions to property supervisors. With over 25 years in the industry, Mitchell draws inspiration from her father, a broker who founded a Century 21 office. She holds an AA and BA in interior design from her earlier career teaching fine art to children and working in interior design, along with a real estate license obtained through Century 21 school and a California broker's license earned 4 years ago after balancing full-time work and studies. Her previous experience includes starting property management companies for other firms and running her own company. Mitchell values advice such as not being able to please everyone and never judging a book by its cover, and she advises young women entering the field to develop thick skin, embrace problem-solving, and recognize the rewarding variety each day brings.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Julie
01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
I live by two things: you can't please everyone, especially in this industry, and never judge a book by its cover because you never know who people are or what they own just by looking at them.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
This industry has a lot of challenges and problems that require solutions. You need a thick skin because there's a lot of de-escalating issues and you have to build trust. If you're good at solving puzzles and not getting upset easily, it's rewarding because every day is different and solving problems is very satisfying.
