Her Story
About Julie
I'm the Director of Product Marketing at Smartly, where I've been for a year and a half, though I'm a boomerang employee who stayed at Smartly for almost 2 years the first time around. I've been in the ad tech industry for 10 years now. My main areas of expertise in product marketing are positioning, messaging, strategy, product vision, and go-to-market. I'm originally from France, where I earned my associate degree equivalent in tourism and events planning, my bachelor's in advertising and marketing, and my MBA in entrepreneurship. I also hold the Product Marketing Core certification from the Product Marketing Alliance, where I'm a subscriber. What I attribute my success to is a combination of luck, perseverance, and being a self-starter. I always try to teach myself, persist, and get better. The best career advice I've ever been given is to slow down. The values most important to me in my work and personal life are integrity, ownership and accountability, trust, and truth.

Ten minutes with Julie
01What do you attribute your success to?
I would say there's luck, but also perseverance, knowing what I want and being a self-starter. I always try to teach myself, persist, and always try to get better. That's the key to my success.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Slow down. That's the best career advice I've ever been given throughout my career.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would say persistence. You need to be persistent in what you believe you can do and be driven. Showing that you care and showing that you can do the work is very, very important. And listen. Listen to advice, listen to people.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
I think AI is both an opportunity and a challenge. In ad tech, we leverage AI a lot, but for our customers, Gen AI is an opportunity but also trouble sometimes because you produce so many creatives and sometimes it doesn't look the best. So that's definitely a disturbance. For product marketing specifically, it's definitely AI and how products are shipped. I would also say the environment just changes so fast. The change and new things coming up every day are major factors. So change and AI would be the two main ones, and I think these are opportunities as well as challenges.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Integrity, ownership and accountability, trust, and truth. These are the values most important to me in both my work and personal life.
