Her Story

About Julie

Julie Smith serves as an intimacy guide, somatic cognitive behavioral coach, breathwork facilitator, meditation teacher, and author specializing in holistic health, mental health, and wellness. She spent over a decade in executive leadership roles helping organizations solve complex problems before leaving the corporate world to redefine success after recognizing a disconnection from self amid external achievement. Today she teaches clients to listen to their bodies and hearts rather than the mind, drawing on her education at the University of Vermont in entrepreneurship, consumer and advertising studies, and political science, along with more than a dozen certifications in somatic psychology, movement and exercise science, sound meditation, and breathwork. She has also pursued untraditional education by living in the Brazilian Amazon with the Huni Kuin village and completing a Bhuti initiation with indigenous tribes. Julie attributes her success to love and the ability to listen, values integrity, authenticity, and self-reliance in her work, and is passionate about equine therapy nonprofits such as Mainstream in New Jersey.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Julie

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would attribute my success to love, because the whole purpose of my work is to remember the truth of who you are, and to reorient servant and the heart as the master. To love is to listen, which is exactly why the word heart in English has the word hear, ear, and art within it. I attribute my success to being able to listen, being able to love.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

So many of us spend years becoming who we needed to be in order to survive before really asking ourselves who we're actually here to become. Get in your body, get present. You don't need to have all of the answers right now, and if you're relying on your thinking brain to give you those answers, you're only going to replicate the past. Getting deep enough into your body and into your heart so you can learn to listen and truly create a life that is exclusively yours.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Especially with social media, the challenge is understanding how to maximize my reach and really share with the people who will benefit most from what I have to offer the world. That is the greatest challenge.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Integrity, authenticity, and self-reliance. Self-reliance is really contingent upon three pillars which encompass self-respect, self-belief, and encouragement.
