Learning Delivery Specialist
CHRISTUS Health
Irving, TX 75039

Julie Stark is a seasoned healthcare professional with more than three decades of experience dedicated to improving patient care and strengthening healthcare organizations from within. Her journey into the field was deeply personal, inspired by the compassionate and dignified care her mother received during a critical illness. That experience shaped Julie’s lifelong commitment to ensuring that patients are treated not just clinically, but humanely. She began her career with HCA and later spent over a decade with the Texas Department of Health, where she focused on social marketing and women’s services, building a strong foundation in public health communication and outreach.

Julie went on to spend many years with CHRISTUS Health, where she played a key role in marketing, public relations, and media relations, supporting service lines such as orthopedics, neurology, and birthing services. She briefly stepped away to serve as Director of Communications for the Catholic Diocese of Corpus Christi while earning her Master of Theological Studies from the University of Dallas. This unique combination of healthcare expertise and theological education deepened her commitment to faith-based service, ethical leadership, and community engagement. Throughout her career, she has remained actively involved in local organizations, fostering meaningful partnerships and contributing to initiatives that serve vulnerable populations.

Today, Julie serves as a Learning Delivery Specialist at CHRISTUS Health, where she leads a comprehensive 5–6 month leadership development program for new and emerging leaders. In this role, she equips participants with practical skills such as giving effective feedback, navigating difficult conversations, and building cohesive teams. Julie is especially passionate about shaping leaders who lead with integrity, empathy, and accountability, recognizing that strong leadership directly impacts both employee experience and patient care. She takes pride in being a catalyst for growth in others, helping to cultivate a culture where dignity, respect, and excellence are at the forefront of healthcare delivery.

Q

What do you attribute your success to?

For me, a 30-year veteran of healthcare marketing and communications, the turning point came in a hospital room. When my mother was very ill and in a coma, she was treated with such dignity and respect by the nurses and administrators, not just as another body in a bed, but as a person. That experience really made me realize that's an organization and a place I'd really like to work for. My mother, Connie, was such an influence in my life. She always was someone who walked alongside me, giving me advice and direction. She was the stalwart in my family. Although she went to 8th grade and was a full-time mom, she was a wealth of information and well-read. I could never find my mother without a book. She had a book in the living room, by her bedside. She was just a paragon of knowledge, and I really think that she has influenced everything that I do, everything, the tracks that I've taken, the steps that I've gone, were because she made it possible. The advice that she gave me was always spot on. She had a vision for herself and her daughters, and her wisdom stays with me.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would say find something that you're passionate about. Find something that you believe with your whole heart, because that is going to make you happy. You know, sometimes marketing could be dog-eat-dog, and if you do not believe in the product you are either providing PR for, media relations for, or providing any kind of service for, then you're not going to be all the way in. And in order for you to make a great impact, you have to believe it. You have to be passionate about it. Otherwise, it's just a job, and not something that you're in love with. The money comes later. You know, if you're going to take a job purely for the amount of money you're gonna make, that is not gonna make you happy. Your work family are the people that you spend the most time with. You start your day early and don't leave until 5 o'clock, 5:30, sometimes 6, and then you have a short little time. So finding that work-life balance also is very important, because passionate people can also be burned out. That work-life balance is very important.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges—and opportunities—in healthcare today is the need for strong, effective leadership. The way leaders show up directly impacts not only their teams but also patient outcomes and the overall experience of patients and their families. There is a growing opportunity to invest in structured leadership development programs that equip individuals with the skills they need to lead well. At the same time, we must be mindful of preventing burnout among leaders, ensuring they are supported and equipped to sustain their roles.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that guide both my professional and personal life are dignity and respect for every individual, faith-driven service, and a genuine passion for people. I believe in treating others with compassion and integrity in every interaction. Additionally, maintaining a healthy work–life balance is very important to me, as it allows me to be fully present and effective both at work and in my personal life.
