Her Story

About Julie

Julie Walz is the Founder and Director of IWD406, a Montana-based media and marketing platform dedicated to amplifying the voices, businesses, and leadership of women across the state. Launched in February 2024, IWD406 has evolved from statewide women’s events into a broader digital ecosystem featuring the IWD406 Podcast, networking communities, strategic visibility initiatives, and collaborative events. With nearly 30 years of experience spanning strategy, marketing, promotion, public relations, and media, Julie draws on her background in television and radio to create platforms that connect people, stories, and opportunities.

Julie earned a Bachelor of Arts in Art History, Pre-Law, and Women’s Studies from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and a Master of Human Service Administration from Bradley University. Her professional experience includes work with organizations such as Caterpillar, Abbott Laboratories, and Fox Television Stations, where she developed expertise in marketing, operational systems, sales, and brand execution. She has also pursued additional training in mindfulness instruction and behavioral studies, reflecting her interest in personal development, creativity, and human connection.

Based in Whitefish, Montana, Julie is deeply engaged in building and strengthening her local business community. She runs more than three networking communities representing over 300 women and hosts the IWD406 Podcast, while preparing to launch The Anthology Montana magazine in 2027. She also mentors emerging entrepreneurs through the Wachholtz Innovation Entrepreneurial Center and creates events such as Big Event Ski for IWD406. Outside of her professional work, Julie enjoys art, writing, biking, working out, hiking, skiing, snowshoeing, fishing, and spending time with her husband of 20 years, their three children, and two dogs. Her passion is to make a meaningful impact, connect people, and build a lasting legacy for her family and the Montana women she serves.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Julie

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to the values I was raised with, particularly integrity. I strive to approach everything I do with honesty, consistency, and strong principles, staying true to my core beliefs. These are values I continually practice, rely on, and teach my children.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve received is to say yes, stay curious, and remain open to new possibilities. Embracing opportunities with an open mind can lead to growth, learning, and unexpected paths forward.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I encourage young women to seek guidance from wise women who have experience and have been where they are going. When things feel serious or overwhelming, take a breath, stay grounded, and give yourself permission to soften. Remain open, curious, and willing to learn from others along the way.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in my field is navigating a business culture in the Northwest where people tend to be highly resourceful and may not readily ask for help. Access to resources and building a collaborative environment can take time, making strong networking and relationship-building essential to creating meaningful connections and opportunities.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me are authenticity, trust, and support. I believe in showing up as my true self, being a source of unconditional support for my family, and creating a safe space where others feel comfortable coming to me. Above all, I strive to be of value and demonstrate these values through my actions.
