Her Story

About June

I started this business about a year and a half ago after experiencing firsthand how difficult it is to navigate the corporate environment as a single mom, especially coming from an immigrant background with no family support. I was looking for services like pickup from school to daycare, safe childcare options, and help managing the logistics of being a working parent, but I couldn't find what I needed. Over time, I had a really hard time juggling all of this and being able to maintain my image and grow in my career, and I eventually ended up losing my job. That's when I decided I wanted to create what I didn't have myself. Now we provide five services: transport for children, daycare, nanny on the wheel services, dog care, and we're testing out senior care because a lot of immigrant families reached out asking for help with seniors in their home. We have about 150 clients across all services and currently operate in five cities. We're working on an app right now to bring all the services onto the app, to streamline operations, scale them, and make them available more widely. We hope to grow much further and provide these services because we feel it's deeply necessary for working parents and families with unique situations.

01What do you attribute your success to?

I think it's taking that risk. I could have looked for another job, but for me, I feel like I would end up being in the same position again, because there is a gap that is not being filled. So, I could either try again, or I could try to solve for the issue. Just being able to see that, and taking a risk at a time where it wasn't the most convenient to take the risk, and also keep believing in it, and keep on going. I had people around that time who were going through similar things, and I had asked them to join me, and they just weren't comfortable taking that risk at that time. It wasn't something they could visualize.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would ask more questions to see what kind of a place they're in in life, just because it was right for me doesn't mean it's right for everybody. I think that's very subjective, and it's also dependent on the person's capacity. I run into a lot of people that have a lot of great ideas, and a lot of their ideas could really be great businesses. But is it paired up with the capacity it takes and the resilience it takes to keep failing, and still believing, and still taking that next step? So I think that pairing is really important. And also just how resourceful is that person? I would always encourage people to realize the best version of themselves, but it's also very important to be realistic about what can and cannot happen.
