Her Story

About Justine

Justine De Peralta is a K-12 account executive at Imagine Learning, where she partners with school districts across San Diego, Los Angeles, and Orange Counties to deliver online curriculum for learners from pre-K through adult education. A graduate of UCLA and Teachers College, Columbia University, she built her ed tech career through roles at New Classrooms, Achieve3000, and Imagine Learning. Along the way she managed district implementations, led professional learning for educators, and oversaw major renewals with the Los Angeles Unified School District before moving into sales. She is known for a relationship-first approach that brings together administrators, teachers, and counselors to improve student outcomes.

Beyond her corporate role, De Peralta is the founder of Afraid to Affluent, a coaching and education business that helps women, particularly BIPOC women and domestic violence survivors, reclaim financial autonomy after abuse or financial infidelity. A certified financial educator and trauma-informed money coach, she has completed the Trauma of Money Professional Certification and is a member of the National Financial Educators Council. She is also the author of Girl, Jump! and a keynote speaker and domestic violence advocate. Drawing on her own experience as a survivor, she speaks on money trauma, resilience, and redefining wealth beyond income.

Her commitment to education extends to her service as vice president of Anak ti Candon International, a nonprofit that funds schools and technology for communities in the Philippines. Guided by honesty, perseverance, and respect, she emphasizes credibility and compassion in all of her work. Outside of her professional life, she is a marathon runner who found renewed joy in movement after leaving an abusive relationship.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Justine

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to turning my experience as a domestic violence survivor into a mission to empower other women with financial knowledge and independence. My work as an account executive in ed tech, my passion for financial education and public speaking, and my business, Afraid to Affluent, all grow from that mission. My volunteer service with a nonprofit that builds schools in the Philippines and my love of marathon running, which I rediscovered after leaving an abusive relationship, have also shaped who I am.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

My passion comes from my experience as a domestic violence survivor, and it drives me to spread awareness of the importance of having your own money.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would advise the next generation to continue being credible.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me in my work and personal life are honesty, perseverance, and respect.
