Her Story

About Justine

I started off in the medical field going to school to become a nurse but fulfilled all requirements and was going to take my NCLEX when life threw me a curveball. I ended up getting a CDFA and my degree in welding. I started out in the field and my baby brother who is a master electrician saw me as a helper and told me to apply for an electrician job. Within a short time frame doing electrical work I became considered with how quick I learned print schematics pin IDs termination diagrams the reason why we connect point to point relays thermal transmitters how to do the actual install conduit tray. I knew I had found something I enjoyed. I am currently a senior construction manager for Overwatch Mission Control and have been in the role for about 7 months.

Ten minutes with Justine

01What do you attribute your success to?

The people in the time that I've been doing this show me train me have me understand have me know how to go about to be able to take it all and make it my own put my own style in it to be able to produce and lead the way that I do. One of the biggest feedbacks is that when I explain something or when I'm training somebody they do it in such a way that's so understandable.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

You were right the first time. Once you have a standard and know it all what you're doing what you're installing what you're trying to produce it actually is more attainable than not to be able to get it done the right the first time so you don't have to come back and rework.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Do not be scared in a male-dominated field. Because the mind is not sexist. The mind is the mind right? The brain is the brain. And always always learn always research. Every time I learn something new when I went home that day or even during my lunches I was researching reading understanding the functionality. And then go out and try to understand the install. Never stop. Never stop getting information never stop learning never stop obtaining. And always be open to constructive criticism.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Time. We need everything's good and we're able to give a product to the client give it over to them with little to no errors as possible.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I try to lead my authenticity integrity right? To be able to influence. To set your values focus on the resolution the completion to be easily to not be easily swayed and whatnot always trying to surpass the status quo. For me values is working as a unit working as a family. Working as a group that you can then transition to in other projects or see them in other projects to know that if those people are working under you or around you you know everything's gonna be okay.
