Justine Miller is the Deputy Athletic Director and Senior Woman Administrator at Mount St. Mary’s University, where she oversees academics, compliance, sports medicine, and other internal operations across the athletic department. Her 12-year career in sports management began as a men’s basketball manager during her undergraduate studies at Mount St. Mary’s, reflecting her long-standing dedication to collegiate athletics. From 2014 to 2017, she served as the Director of Men’s Basketball Operations before advancing into her current leadership role, demonstrating a strong trajectory of professional growth within the university.

Throughout her career, Justine has developed expertise in organizing complex operations and supporting student-athletes both on and off the field. Notably, she orchestrated a 19-day road trip for the men’s basketball team and coordinated travel for a 104-person party during a major tournament, showcasing her exceptional organizational and logistical skills. She emphasizes holistic student-athlete development, including academic support, life skills, and leadership opportunities, and serves as a mentor and advocate for women in sports, inspired by leaders such as her own mentor, Lynn Robinson, one of the few female athletic directors who made a lasting impression on her career.

In addition to her professional achievements, Justine is committed to community engagement and volunteerism. She has contributed to Special Olympics Maryland and participated in Relay for Life events, supporting causes she is passionate about. A graduate of Mount St. Mary’s University with a Bachelor of Science in Sport Management and Business and an MBA in Business Administration, Justine combines her deep knowledge of athletics with strategic leadership to positively impact student-athletes, colleagues, and the broader sports community.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would advise young women entering this industry to prioritize networking, cultivate confidence, and seek out mentorship opportunities. Having had the privilege of mentoring several women, including Alexthus Watson and Natalia Woods, I’ve seen firsthand the transformative impact that guidance and support can have on professional growth. Building meaningful connections and trusting your abilities are essential steps toward navigating the challenges and achieving long-term success in this field.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that guide me in both my professional and personal life center on leadership, service, and advocacy. I am deeply committed to supporting women in sports, which I pursue through my involvement with Women Leaders in Sports and participation in the NCAA convention. Volunteering is also a core part of my life, including work with Special Olympics Maryland and supporting cancer awareness through Relay for Life. I am passionate about expanding my network beyond Mount St. Mary’s University and raising awareness about women in sports, particularly as professional leagues grow. Inspired by leaders like Susan O’Malley, former CEO of the Washington Wizards, I believe in the power of sharing women’s stories to motivate and empower the next generation.
