Kaavya Rathnakumar, Ph.D. is a highly accomplished expert in Mineral Nutrition and Technical Business Development, currently serving as Market Development Manager for Mineral Nutrition & Supplements (Americas) at Jungbunzlauer. In her current role, she leads the expansion of mineral salts across the Americas by delivering science-driven, customized technical solutions for food, beverage, and supplement applications. She is recognized for her ability to bridge advanced scientific expertise with commercial strategy, enabling innovative, market-ready solutions that align with both customer needs and consumer expectations.
She brings extensive experience in dairy and food processing research, product development, and ingredient innovation across B2B, B2C, food ingredients, and CPG industries. Her technical specialization includes dairy science, bioreactor systems, and dairy chemistry, which has supported her international research experience across multiple countries focused on food ingredient innovation. She holds a Ph.D. in bioactive ingredients, further strengthening her expertise in functional nutrition and advanced food systems. Her background combines deep scientific rigor with practical application in industrial product development and commercialization.
Previously, Kaavya held senior innovation and food science roles at Balchem and Beyond Meat, where she led large-scale product development initiatives across frozen desserts, dairy systems, and plant-based applications. Her work includes managing innovation pipelines, driving commercialization strategies, and developing solutions in protein fortification, sodium reduction, clean-label systems, and sensory optimization. In her current role, she is evolving into a broader strategic voice of science and consumer insight, focused on translating technical expertise into practical, innovative, and commercially viable solutions. She is also an established thought leader, published author, reviewer, and global speaker committed to advancing science-driven innovation in nutrition and food systems.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Stay curious, stay open for opportunities, look for mentors, try to come out of your comfort zone, and try to build networks and more opportunities. Once you find these opportunities, try to utilize those opportunities. That will be the key to success.
02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Transitioning from a more technical background to a business role is the most challenging, and I am still trying to navigate that while learning a lot through those challenges.
