Kait Hines
Kait Hines is a Senior UX Designer based in Cupertino, California, with over 15 years of experience shaping user-centered products across mobile, web, voice, wearables, and emerging AI-driven platforms. With a background in psychology from St. Mary’s College of Maryland, she brings a human-centered approach to design, focusing on how people understand and interact with technology rather than purely on visual trends or technical constraints. Her career spans industries including insurance, enterprise software, assistive technology, and large-scale consumer ecosystems, consistently emphasizing clarity, accessibility, and meaningful user impact.
She began her career at GEICO, where she helped establish user research practices and led design work for mobile applications serving millions of users. During this time, she also managed and mentored design teams while contributing to award-winning digital experiences. Her work there helped strengthen her foundation in research-driven design and cross-functional collaboration, leading to multiple industry recognitions, including mobile experience awards. This early experience shaped her ability to translate complex business and technical requirements into intuitive, scalable user experiences.
Kait later joined Amazon, where she has spent the past several years working on Alexa and next-generation AI experiences, including generative AI and agentic systems. She has led key initiatives such as onboarding flows for Alexa+ and accessibility-focused features like assistive and emergency response tools. Her work has been recognized with honors such as Voice Experience of the Year for inclusive design contributions. Today, she focuses on the intersection of AI and user experience, exploring how large language models and intelligent systems can responsibly enhance everyday life while maintaining a strong commitment to accessibility and human-centered design principles.

What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to strong analytical and presentation skills developed through my psychology degree and research training, combined with being in the right place at pivotal moments such as the rise of mobile adoption. I also prioritize taking calculated risks and grounding my decisions in data-driven hypotheses.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve received came from strong women leaders who shaped how I think and communicate, regardless of formal titles. They taught me to present analytical information clearly and effectively, and through their honesty and curiosity, showed me the value of accountability and clarity in problem-solving.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering the field is to remember that confidence doesn’t come from knowing everything—it comes from trusting your ability to figure things out. Saying “I don’t know” is not a weakness; it’s a starting point, as long as you follow through by finding answers or exploring solutions. Don’t be afraid to speak up and ask questions, as growth comes from curiosity and engagement, and always ground yourself in what you already know—you’ve worked hard for your knowledge, and that foundation is something no one can take away.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges—and opportunities—in the field today is navigating the rapid advancement of technology and its expanding capabilities. While there are many exciting possibilities for what we can build and implement, the real responsibility lies in critically evaluating whether we are using these technologies in the most meaningful and effective way.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me in both my work and personal life center on balance, impact, and connection. Working in a highly digital field, I value grounding myself in something tangible—like quilting—which provides a physical, creative outlet that balances the abstract nature of my work. I also place strong importance on community and access, staying connected to initiatives like Girls Who Code and Nextdoor Solutions, which reinforce my commitment to mentorship, representation, and ensuring that technological progress remains inclusive and meaningful.
