Her Story

About Kaitlyn

Kaitlyn Cheshier is a Senior Production Manager with a professional background in architecture, 3D modeling, and residential design production. She earned her Bachelor of Architecture from The University of Texas at Arlington, where she developed a strong foundation in architectural design and technical drafting. Early in her career, she worked at an engineering firm where she gained hands-on experience in 3D modeling and material takeoffs, building an understanding of how residential structures are designed and constructed in a cost-efficient and practical manner.

She later joined Toll Brothers Architecture, where she contributed to residential design projects and played a role in strengthening and expanding the production and BIM-focused design team. During this period, she further refined her expertise in architectural modeling, documentation, and workflow development across multiple project phases. Her work emphasized precision, collaboration, and improving design processes for residential development teams operating at scale.

Currently, she works remotely as a Production Manager at Apex Technology, Inc, where she leads training and development for new team members entering architectural production roles. A significant part of her work involves mentoring individuals from diverse, non-architectural backgrounds and helping them develop skills in 3D modeling, architectural drafting, and production workflows. In addition to her professional responsibilities, she is involved in adaptive sports volunteering and participates in cycling events supporting Multiple Sclerosis awareness, reflecting a strong commitment to community engagement and personal advocacy.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Kaitlyn

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would say the people I have worked with. Right now, I have a great community at this job, and everyone's willing to put in effort. I stay late, as well as my coworkers, and we get the job done, and we all have a great attitude when we do it. Everyone is willing to help out each other, and I have gained life long friends along the way.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Be flexible and humble. Sometimes you can get so wrapped up in a project that it can be frustrating if you had to change designs last minute or update to something completely different than the first design. That is inevitable in this career. Learning to be able to pivot is crucial. No one is perfect, we are all human. Mistakes will happen, and honestly that is a good thing. Sometimes you learn the most after fixing a mistake made. We can't be perfect, we have to accept and own up to mistakes, fix them, learn and continue to grow. I learn everyday and that's what keeps me motivated and excited for helping grow others.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would say don't be afraid to ask questions. This is your life, your goals and aspirations. The more you ask and the more information you get, the more you have in your back pocket to get you where you want to be. You have a voice, speak up and be willing to learn.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge I would say is clients changing the design at the last minute. It often happens because they'll build the house, and then find an issue, and we have to fix it or redesign a certain room to make it work more efficiently for the client. It can be frustrating, but that's just part of the business. I think it's more of an opportunity for the team to learn and grow in their realm and field. Patience is key, and being flexible is pretty much essential.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Communication is the most important value in both my professional and personal life. I strongly believe that clear and consistent communication is essential to success in any setting. I do not think it is possible to overcommunicate when it comes to ensuring alignment and understanding. When everyone is on the same page, collaboration becomes smoother and outcomes are far more effective.
