Her Interview

Ten minutes with Kaitlyn

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would say the people I surround myself with, really. I am grateful for my coworkers, my leaders, and my family. I think they have really uplifted me and believed in me in the times where I didn't really believe in myself, and I think without their support, I wouldn't be where I am today. The leaders at Priority One have been wonderful encouragement I could have ever asked for. I also think that always betting on yourself and staying consistent and believing in yourself goes a very long way, and I think that attributes to my success today.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I've ever received is always bet on yourself. That was very helpful in my career now, and something that I always have to remind myself is to always bet on yourself and to never give up on yourself. I think this industry can be very tough and challenging, and staying consistent and believing in yourself goes a very long way, and I think that attributes to my success today.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would say really believe in yourself, don't give up. Stay true to who you are. Don't let people second-guess you. Don't let people doubt you. Stand firm in what you know, is what I would tell anyone entering into this industry today, especially young women. I think, especially being in this industry, it's a male-dominated industry as well, so you have to really stand firm in who you are and not let people brush you around or push you around in this industry, which can happen as a female.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I think right now we are experiencing one of the biggest freight recessions we've ever seen, so the biggest challenge is just building trust with people and showing them what we can do. I think everything is so uncertain right now in this industry, and a lot of things are affecting the industry from all angles, so just being the expert and proving to people that you can get the job done is probably one of the biggest challenges right now, because everyone's kind of nervous and kind of walking on eggshells. So I think it's just proving yourself and improving what you can do.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I think the biggest one is just being true to myself and being confident in who I am. That's my biggest one, really. I think, especially being in this industry, it's a male-dominated industry as well, so you have to really stand firm in who you are and not let people brush you around or push you around in this industry, which can happen as a female. So I think just really being true to who I am is most important, and just connecting with people.
