Her Story

About Kalia

I have been working in the field of public affairs and technology policy for eight years. I began my career in Brussels with APCO, a leading public affairs advisory firm, where I spent four years supporting public affairs and advocacy campaigns. Four years ago, I transitioned to San Francisco to join APCO's sister company, Trigillent, which specializes in advising technology clients and startups. There, I focused on product policy and technology regulation, tackling issues such as artificial intelligence, privacy, and more. This role allowed me to merge my expertise in regulatory affairs, developed in Brussels, with the dynamic technology landscape of Silicon Valley. For the past year, I have been based in New York, where I continue to bridge my background in regulatory affairs with technology policy. I work closely with tech clients, providing strategic advice on policy, regulation, and communications to help them navigate complex challenges and opportunities in the ever-evolving tech ecosystem. Looking ahead, I am deeply committed to advancing my expertise in AI policy over the next five years. My goal is to help companies translate complex AI policy and regulatory issues into actionable strategies. By leveraging my experience in regulatory affairs and technology policy, I aspire to contribute to shaping responsible AI practices that balance innovation with societal impact.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I have ever received was simple, but some times hard to apply when you are starting of your career: "don’t be afraid to ask; the worst you can hear is no." I’ve been fortunate to be surrounded by incredible mentors who have encouraged me to take up space, ask questions, and seize opportunities. This advice has taught me that opportunities often come to those who are bold enough to seek them, and that even a "no" is just part of the journey.

02What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

One of my core values, both personally and professionally, is inspiring and empowering others through representation. Growing up on a small island like Cyprus, with a population of just 1 million, opportunities sometimes felt limited. My journey has been about thinking beyond those limits, uncovering opportunities where they weren’t immediately obvious, and creating a path of my own. My path hasn’t been linear, and I still have a long way to go, however by sharing my story and experiences, I hope to encourage women to dream bigger, embrace opportunities, and break barriers they once believed were impossible to overcome.
