Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to never giving up when it gets hard. There's always gonna be hard things, but they only make you better. I've always believed that nobody's gonna be a better advocate for yourself than you, so I keep a brag binder and make sure I'm documenting my accomplishments. Throughout my career, I've faced challenges - from having my military nursing degree not transfer to Ohio, to being assaulted by a patient, to navigating a male-dominated field - but I've never let those obstacles stop me. Instead, I sat down with mentors, looked at my strengths, and pivoted toward where I could make the biggest difference. I've always been driven by wanting to give back to my community and help make things better, whether that's stopping the drug epidemic I saw as a rotating door in civilian medicine, or tracking down gang members and stopping crimes before they happen.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Always have a brag binder. Nobody's gonna be a better advocate for yourself than you.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Giving back to my community is one of my core values, no matter where I'm living. I've always wanted to make a difference and help people. I run a 9-acre regenerative farm where my neighbor and I joined together to run a homeschool program in the summertime, and we started a book club where we do crafts and get our community together. We have solar, rotate our pastures, and everything we grow, we eat - we have sheep, pumpkins, cows, and sell our eggs and meat. I also help coach my son's baseball team. When I was in the Air Force stationed in New Mexico, I helped start a domestic violence program to help find housing, furniture, clothing, and kids' stuff for victims. It was a great program. Whether it's through my law enforcement work stopping drugs and gangs, or through my farm and community programs, I'm always trying to give back and make things better for the people around me.
